Fuck You Helen Thomas

How can I put it any more plainly than that? The audacity of her statement on the Jews leaving Israel moves me to profanity in a way not usually seen on this blog.

Helen Thomas made the breathtakingly ignorant comment that she wants the Jews out of Israel, saying they should return to Poland and Germany, leaving the lands they have lived on since 1948 when Israel was established as a Jewish State.

The Jews didn’t fare too well in World War II in Europe. That simple little factoid of six million murdered comes to mind. Israel was established as a homeland for the scattered and battered Jews to come home to after World War II, what was left of them.

It is so easy to Monday Morning Quarterback the situation, but imagine that the neighbors on either side of you in your neighborhood have sworn to kill you, and your very survival depends on vigilance. Certainly such a situation would cause anyone to exist in an ugliness that few of us would relish.

Helen Thomas is entitled to her opinion I suppose but it reflects her ignorance at best, or rank anti-semitism at worst. Suppose she had encouraged African Americans to return to Africa? A similarly ignorant and racist comment that would raise a firestorm of protest. I don’t know if Thomas’s ignorant comments will raise a firestorm or not, but I hope so. So at least et me go on the record right here, right now, Fuck You Helen Thomas.

Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery? NOPE! Vacation

Presidents are never really off the clock, even when they go on vacation. But President Obama’s decision to skip the traditional Memorial Day ceremony in Arlington while on his second vacation since the BP oil spill began has some wondering what the schedule says about his priorities.
